forteresse probablement d\u2019origine urart\u00e9enne se trouve au sud du village de Katjet, elle est mentionn\u00e9e par Thomas Ardzouni pour avoir accueillie au Ve si\u00e8cle Vartan Mamikonian. Son nom apparait \u00e9galement au Xe si\u00e8cle, \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque du roi Gaguik du Vaspurakan. Elle est \u00e9galement cit\u00e9e dans un manuscrit de 1442. Au cours de si\u00e8cles, elle a connu plusieurs appellations, Z\u1e59\u0113l, Z\u1e59ayl, Z\u1e59ghayl, et son nom turc actuel est \u00ab\u00a0Zerel kalesi\u00a0\u00bb. Cette citadelle se trouve au sommet d\u2019un piton rocheux tr\u00e8s escarp\u00e9 et nous n\u2019avons pas tent\u00e9 de le gravir. Apr\u00e8s environ deux heures, nous atteignons le magnifique pont de pierre de Khoulk\u2019toun, bord\u00e9 de maisons faisant office d&rsquo;auberges. De l\u00e0, nous traversons le fleuve vers l&rsquo;est, puis nous nous dirigeons vers le sud, le long d&rsquo;une \u00e9troite falaise, nous sommes \u00e9touff\u00e9s par la chaleur accablante du mois de juillet et d\u00e9vor\u00e9s par les moustiques assoiff\u00e9s de sang. Nous longeons la rive, tremp\u00e9s de sueur, parfois teint\u00e9e du sang des piq\u00fbres de ces moustiques. Notre pauvre cheval, accabl\u00e9 par cette chaleur et les insectes qui s&rsquo;accrochent \u00e0 son corps nu et le piquent jusqu&rsquo;au sang, est souvent contraint de s&rsquo;allonger \u00e0 m\u00eame le sol. Alors, tant\u00f4t nous avan\u00e7ons, tant\u00f4t nous nous jetons dans la rivi\u00e8re pour nous rafra\u00eechir, et en six heures, nous atteignions le village arm\u00e9nien de Khoumar, pour y passer la nuit. Le lendemain matin nous profitons de la fra\u00eecheur matinale pour gravir la forteresse que nous avions pr\u00e9vu d&rsquo;escalader. Ce village, qui comptait jadis trois cents foyers arm\u00e9niens, n&rsquo;en compte plus qu&rsquo;une dizaine. T\u00e9moignage de sa prosp\u00e9rit\u00e9 pass\u00e9e, son \u00e9glise Saint-Thadd\u00e9e qui est un \u00e9difice aux magnifiques arcades et \u00e0 la porte \u00e0 quatre rang\u00e9es de pierres et d\u2019imposantes colonnes. Sur les murs enduits, on aper\u00e7oit par endroits des images color\u00e9es de divers saints. La porte, qui semble plus r\u00e9cente que l&rsquo;\u00e9glise, fut construite en l\u2019an 1599, par le pr\u00eatre Hayrapet, dont le tombeau se trouve \u00e0 droite de la porte. Sa belle pierre tombale porte la date de 1607. Une large ouverture a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9couverte dans cette porte, les anciens, racontent qu&rsquo;il s&rsquo;agissait d&rsquo;une armoire secr\u00e8te remplie de pr\u00e9cieux objets liturgiques. Mais lors de la derni\u00e8re guerre russo-turque, apr\u00e8s avoir pill\u00e9 le village, les troupes irr\u00e9guli\u00e8res kurdes s&#8217;empar\u00e8rent de cette \u00e9glise et vol\u00e8rent les objets qui s&rsquo;y trouvaient. En fouillant et creusant partout, elles mirent au jour cette armoire, qu&rsquo;elles vid\u00e8rent de son contenu s\u00e9culaire, qui contenait d\u2019anciennes croix en argent, des couronnes, etc\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Au nord-ouest de ce lieu se dresse une ancienne forteresse nomm\u00e9e\u00a0Mankaberd, dont on peut encore apercevoir les vestiges. En face se trouve l&#8217;emplacement d&rsquo;un ancien monast\u00e8re dont j\u2019ignore le nom. Les ruines de ce monast\u00e8re sont recouvertes d&rsquo;arbres et de noyers g\u00e9ants.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dans la m\u00eame zone se trouvent \u00e9galement les ruines d&rsquo;un autre monast\u00e8re, que les habitants appellent le monast\u00e8re d&rsquo;Aghanats, lieu sacr\u00e9 pour les Arm\u00e9niens. Au sud se trouve le village de Nar, d\u00e9j\u00e0 mentionn\u00e9, \u00e0 environ cinq heures de route. Ce village est le berceau de Khosrov Andzevatsi, mais aucune trace d&rsquo;Arm\u00e9niens n&rsquo;y a \u00e9t\u00e9 trouv\u00e9e. Le lendemain matin, \u00e0 l&rsquo;aube, guid\u00e9s par un Arm\u00e9nien du village, nous entreprenons l&rsquo;ascension de la forteresse de Z\u1e59\u0113la. Nous grimpons depuis le nord-est \u00e0 travers les for\u00eats et, en deux heures, nous atteignons le sommet. L\u00e0, nous empruntons une ancienne ouverture en forme de porte, unique acc\u00e8s \u00e0 la forteresse, jadis condamn\u00e9e par une porte aujourd&rsquo;hui disparue. Un peu plus loin, nous apercevons les vestiges de marches creus\u00e9es dans la roche, semblables \u00e0 celles des forteresses chald\u00e9ennes, pour en faciliter l&rsquo;ascension. Sur les rochers, nous d\u00e9couvrons par endroits des niches, isol\u00e9es ou juxtapos\u00e9es, qui devaient servir pour recueillir l&rsquo;eau de pluie et fournir de l&rsquo;eau potable. Mais le plus frappant, ce sont les symboles grav\u00e9s ici et l\u00e0 sur les rochers de cette forteresse comme des symboles qui repr\u00e9sentent le soleil, la lune, un serpent, des animaux, un homme, etc. \u00a0Aux abords de la forteresse, on distingue par endroits les rang\u00e9es de pierres d&rsquo;anciens murs, ainsi que les vestiges de b\u00e2timents en ruine sous forme de monticules de terre. Autour de ces vestiges, on aper\u00e7oit \u00e9galement des fragments de poterie parfois \u00e9maill\u00e9s, t\u00e9moignant de l&rsquo;anciennet\u00e9 de l\u2019occupation du lieu. Au point culminant de la forteresse se dresse un \u00e9difice en pierre en forme de chapelle, mais, du fait de sa d\u00e9cr\u00e9pitude et de sa porte mur\u00e9e, l&rsquo;acc\u00e8s en est d\u00e9sormais interdit. Cette chapelle est appel\u00e9e Kalha, d\u00e9di\u00e9e \u00e0 saint Georges, elle attire de nombreux p\u00e8lerins de Vardavar. Ceci atteste de la pr\u00e9sence d&rsquo;un monast\u00e8re Anahta \u00e0 cet emplacement, lorsque ses c\u00e9l\u00e9brations avaient lieu \u00e0 Vardavar, dans le prolongement des f\u00eates d\u2019Anahta qui se d\u00e9roulaient \u00e9galement \u00e0 Vardavar. La tradition populaire raconte aussi qu&rsquo;\u00e0 l&#8217;emplacement de cette chapelle se dressait jadis un grand monast\u00e8re, luxueux qui abritait de nombreux moines, aux allures de forteresse et \u00e0 la position imprenable. C&rsquo;est pourquoi les tribus kurdes environnantes cherchaient \u00e0 s&rsquo;y rendre sous n&rsquo;importe quel pr\u00e9texte pour massacrer les moines et les d\u00e9pouiller de leurs biens. Lors des fouilles men\u00e9es au fil du temps sur cette forteresse, des antiquit\u00e9s ont parfois \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9couvertes\u00a0: fragments de fl\u00e8ches, de lances, des pi\u00e8ces de monnaie anciennes, etc. Cette forteresse contrairement \u00e0 d&rsquo;autres de ce type, poss\u00e8de une source permanente d&rsquo;eau tr\u00e8s froide et douce, situ\u00e9e \u00e0 l&rsquo;ouest, dans une ouverture en forme de crat\u00e8re, ce qui facilitait certainement la vie de ses habitants.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight:
